Cote How is the former home of artist Fred Yates, who lived here between 100 and 1906. During this time Fred had the skylight installed in the Rydal Suite which was his painting studio, and the place where he painted the ex-American President Woodrow Wilson.

Yates found so much to paint in the local area and is famous for his portraits and landscapes.

Rydal is considered to be one of the most picturesque areas of the whole lake district and has many wonderful natural features in a relatively small area, from huge mountiains on both sides of the valley to 2 unspoilt lakes, Rydal Water and Grasmere.

For this reason Cote How attracts many painters who are looking for a peaceful painting holiday. The house is surrounded by fabulous fells and set amongst 4 acres of natural beauty with easy walking access to Rydal Water and river Rothay from the back garden.
