This traditional 17th Century Lakeland Inn is situated in the village of Near Sawrey. Many of the illustrations in the famous Beatrix Potter books can be traced back to their origins here, including the Tower Bank Arms, which is featured in The Tales Of Jemima Puddleduck. Hilltop, Beatrix Potters former home, is situated just behind the pub!

Loweswater - Western Lake District

Nestled in a wooded valley, Loweswater is not far from the delightful market town of Cockermouth and the attractions of the Western Lake District.
Loweswater and the immediate vacinity was the stunning setting for several scenes in Miss Potter and at approximately one mile in length and a half a mile wide, the lake provides an excellent circuit for walkers. Nearby Holme Wood has a lovely waterfall

Yew Tree Farm - Coniston

In the beautiful Yewdale valley, this picturesque farmhouse was once owned by Miss Beatrix Potter and starred as her home, Hill Top, in MISS POTTER. Voted the Most Beautiful Farm in the north of England, Yew Tree Farm offers a tearoom serving light refreshments in the room Beatrix Potter furnished herself.

Lindeth Howe - Windermere

 

Beatrix Potter fell in love with Lindeth House when she and her family rented it as a holiday home. Many years later when she was living at Sawrey, Beatrix noted that the property was for sale and bought it as a home for her mother. Today Lindeth Howe is a superb country house hotel with spectacular views across to Lake Windermere and the fells beyond.

The Rum Story - Whitehaven


The Rum Story - The dark spirit of Whitehaven, is set in the original shop, courtyards, cellars and bonded warehouse of the Jefferson family business in the Georgian town of Whitehaven. Used as the setting for the offices of William Heelis, Beatrix Potter's husband, in MISS POTTER, here you can find out about the story of the UK rum trade which originally centred on the port of Whitehaven.

The Armitt Library - Ambleside

Located in Ambleside, this superb museum, gallery and reference library provides visitors with a fascinating exhibition of Lakeland life and times. In 1943 Beatrix Potter bequeathed her collection of over 450 fungi, microscopic, natural history and archaeology watercolours to the Armitt library, and also on show today are some of the first editions of some of her famous published tales.

Keswick and Derwentwater

 

From 1885 to 1903 the Potter's stayed at houses on the shores of Derwentwater. One of the main filming locations for MISS POTTER, this area is the setting for a number of Beatrix's books and characters including Squirrel Nutkin, Benjamin Bunny and Mrs Tiggy-Winkle. The walk up Catbells is the setting for the Miss Tiggy-Winkle story and offers exquisite views of the surrounding area.

Loughrigg Tarn

 

One of the scenic film locations in MISS POTTER. Loughrigg Tarn is situated in the fells between Grasmere and Elterwater and has striking views north-west towards the Langdale Pikes. Owned by the National Trust, this is a Tarn of outstanding beauty, being almost circular in form and there are excellent walks suited to all abilities in the immediate vicinity.

You can do a circular walk around Loughrigg fell, taking in the Tarn, in approx 2-3 hours from Cote How Guest House and Tearoom.

Coniston and Tarn Hows

 

Tarn Hows and the surrounding land were bought by Beatrix Potter in 1929 and is now owned by the National Trust. A 1.5 mile path circles the stunning tarn and nearby fells and feature in MISS POTTER. A fascinating exhibition of film props are on view at Coniston's Tourist Information Centre together with information about local attractions and the Lake District Peninsulas region.

Windermere and Brockhole

 

With a number of Beatrix Potter connections you can cruise from Bowness to Ambleside and glimpse Wray Castle where Beatrix stayed on her first Lake District holiday, explore nearby Holehird at Troutbeck with it's award winning gardens where she stayed twice, or visit the Lake District Visitor Centre at Brockhole, the former Lakeside residence of Beatrix's cousin Edith Gaddum, now an information centre with fabulous garden, gift shop and cafe.
