We are passionate about the wonderful environment we live in, and are constantly getting involved in many different areas of conservation from invasive species such as Balsam and Knotweed to Red Suirrel conservation and meadow stewardship. We take a very active role in Hands On conservation and spend a lot of time and effort in fundraising for these causes.
As a consequence of taking such an active role in getting others involved and introducing individuals we have formed a number of conservation groups in our area. These include:

Loughrigg red Squirrel Group (LRSG)
This was formed in October 2008 and the initial meeting took place at Cote How on the 15th October.

This first meeting was to introduce the group members and to discuss how we could work more effectively together in a co-ordinated manner.
Cote How Red Squirrel - 5th Sept 2008
This Red Squirrel was photographed at Cote How on the 5th Sept 2008, the first sighting of a Red at Cote How for over 10 years.
This is a sure sign that Reds are re-populating the area as a direct consequence of Grey Squirrel control.

FUNDRAISING THROUGH TOURISM
We are gold supporters of the Tourism and Conservation Partnership, which means that we actively fundraise throughout the year to support conservation throughout the region
VISITOR PLEDGING
This is designed as a practical way of asking visitors to the area to please put something back into the maintenance of it.
We have over 16 million tourism visits to Cumbria each year, and visitors are here because of the fabulous natural beauty all around us. The landscape needs managing however, with such high levels of use causing erosion.
We therefore collect a small donation from each visitor - Only £1.00. This is then channeled into projects such as "Fix the Fells", Red Squirrel Conservation" and "Invasive Species eradication" to name a few.
This is a purely voluntary donation and you are welcome to "opt out" of making a contribution if you wish.
Some visitors may choose to increase their contribution!
